Data Recovery Services From A Damaged Hard Drive

I’m currently Data Recovery Services from a damaged — and dying — hard drive (check this question for background information ). The drive was dropped while the system was running; and as I foolishly tried to run testdiskon it, I started hearing – “ death click ”.

Grasp the ends and physically rotate the entire unit”, “just rotate the unit sharply along the axis of the blades”, and (2) “In situations where the head has crashed, you can temporarily restart it by flipping the disc. Keep the disk upside down while you back up your files.”

I’ve done this with known USB enclosures and used the drive while inside the closed freezer (with my laptop on the kitchen counter).

It rarely helps , there are so many forms of chess it’s a dice game. Data Recovery Services experts advise you not to do this, but to “seek professional help”. How this helper turned professional was by reading and trying stuff with records they weren’t interested in.

The most impressive recovery I’ve managed to date was opening up a drive and peeling the pin out with a screwdriver and shockingly it worked for a few hours while I recovered most of the data. I didn’t even use a clean room. Did this after the freezer trick failed.
